Julio Cesar Cuéllar Casanova, was born in Santa-Cruz, Bolivia ,moved to Stockholm, Sweden in 1981.
He started exhibiting his naturalistic work early into the 80s, many of them aligned with the defense of the ecology. And due to this virtue he was awarded a price of honnor in Denmark in a International event against the atomic bomb With his almost flawless watercolour technique he delights us with hyper realist artpieces filled with detalis and he takes us out of the the rutine with his colourful paintings.
The majority of his paintings are owned by collectors and public entities. Also, Casanova is represented by private collectors in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brasil, Russia, Island, Ukraine (Modern Museum de Jarkov) Mexico, USA, Venezuela and Spain.
Comments and Reviews
"Thus, we are before an artist of light, everything else is a product of Casanova. Giving us that miracle back is enough for his work to be one of the most important within the aesthetic of international realistic watercolour. An artist with a particular instinct that understands our nature with all its forms and shades in an individual and constant way. A painting by Casanova banishes loneliness with its infinite details of exceptionally developed strong colours, they allow company without fear or rest".
Slava Ptrov. Moscu. 1994
"Casanova seems to paint wiith a surgical brush that shows it all to the eager eye. Casanova has not invented a
technique, but he immerses himself into the origins of oldschool watercolour painting, providing total mastery of the expressive resourses of this pictorical technique by means of a balanced combination of dry and wet brush strokes, the control of glaze fading, gradation and tonal harmony of modeling and the blended resolution of the chromatic range in the service of the unmistakably poetic language of his paintings. But it's better to let the image of his work spreak for itself".
Roger Ericsson, Stockholm 2001
""Man of two creative climates, Casanova is an exceptional case when it comes to painting. Born nearby the savage bolivian amazone, adopted aswell his aesthetic temper from rigorness of the Baltic cold of the Scandinavian mainland. Therefore, he's able to paint with warmth in the morning and gelid at night on the same day without loosing quality nor atmospheric belonging"
